Our farm is owned and co-operated by a young farmer on the autism spectrum. When you purchase flowers from Blawesome, you are supporting inclusive agriculture and affirming the value of diversity in both nature and community.
Blawesome is a four-acre flower farm and design studio in western Orange County, NC. We grow over 75 varieties of native flowers, perennials, herbs, and foliage. We sell our flowers through a 3-season flower subscription program, specialty markets, and in our online shop; we provide floral design and installation services for weddings and special events, we offer farm tours, and host a variety of workshops. We work with our hands and our hearts to bring beauty into the lives and homes of our customers and inspire joy and positivity in the world around us; but what really makes Blawesome special is not just our lovely, organic products, but the community-building message that our flowers represent.
Blawesome is a small part of a movement known as social care farming, which uses agricultural work as a way to provide therapeutic intervention to marginalized populations. Our farm is unique because it is a for-profit micro-enterprise that is owned and co-operated by a young man with autism- Raimee- and provides him with a multitude of opportunities to engage in meaningful work, connect with nature, participate in environmental stewardship, and be a contributing member of the local economy. At Blawesome, we believe that the PROCESS of farming is just as valuable as the PRODUCT, and we are using this process to change the landscape of perception around what it means to live and work with a disability.
